In several stores, grocery stores, clothing stores, and even when paying for Yemeksepeti at the door I noticed that the machine was asking me to pay in CND $ instead of TL.
It seems like a few banks updated their way of processing Yabanci credit cards so it offers you to pay in your currency.
BE AWARE THAT THEY WILL GIVE YOU A TERRIBLE EXCHANGE RATE!
( I got 4,2 TL per CND $ at Çagdas grocery store while the exchange rate was 4.6)
THIS IS AN EXTRA 8-10% FEE FOR YOUR TRANSACTION!
Every time, I had to ask them to charge me in TL.
Most of the time they said that it is not possible because I used a foreign credit card.
THIS IS NOT TRUE!
Ask them to restart the transaction process:
The machine will ask if you want to pay in TL or CND$.
On most machines, they have to press CANCEL (or the RED button) to charge you in TL.
Most workers press ok, ok, ok, ok until the PIN prompt comes up… If they do that, you’ll be charged in CND$ with a TERRIBLE exchange rate.
Take the time to look at the total amount before entering your PIN… especially at Çagdas or you might pay 8-10% in banking fees for your transaction…
